Cleaning Day

Today was another hot but satisfying day. We started off the day by weeding the chilies. They were being drowned and over taken by grass and weeds. We cleaned them up and took a break as the first tour came in. After this we were separated and given our own tasks. Lynnae was with Adam, they were in charge of cultivating today. Luke was tasked with sweeping and weeding the path near the fig. I was to cut the tall grass. I believed this this was going to be an easy task, boy was I wrong. This was a strenuous job but I cleared the grass. We cleaned up and went to lunch. When we returned to the garden we were hit with a wave of tired and laziness but we pushed through and went back to work. We threw away the weeds and then were going to move some logs but an accident occurred. Adam got injured.  After we made sure Adam was ok we did a little clean up and came inside.

Hot Day

Today had went by pretty fast, it was just a really hot day. This morning we had to plant sunflower seeds and more corn. We also weeding on the walkway to make it look very nice. In the afternoon we had to finish the walkway, pick up the weeds, and ended the day with cleaning up our tool shed. Today was a good day we accomplished a lot of things, but it would have been a great day if it weren’t for the heat.

Cultivating

Luke Friday 10, 2022

Today we started off by cultivating. Then we weeded that took a long time, and it was 90 degrees which was really bad. After that we took a break and learned a lot about each other. We got to work in the shade that was the best part of the day. Lunch was really good, but I didn’t get any teddy grahams, but I still got the chocolate milk.

Start of Garden 2022

Hello everyone,

I am Misty Suazo, I was one of the first garden interns back in 2014 and I had moved my way through the program since then. I am glad to be back for a third year as garden supervisor, and we have a new supervisor assistant a former intern from 2018 Adan Trujillo. We are happy to have 5 students joining us for the summer 3 are new to the program and 2 are returning (Olivia and Josephine). The students did start a week later than usual but once they started, they worked hard.

Today started off exceptionally well, we took a tour of the house and garden. We also cultivated and weeded. I forgot how tiring working in the garden was. My arms wanted to give up and sweat constantly fell. The only thing I didn’t like was the excruciating heat, but it wasn’t bad I actually enjoyed everything we did today. I can’t wait to see what this summer has to offer.

Olivia Gillette

we started off today with building mounds for the seeds we were planting later. I forgot how much work it was to keep the mounds straight and even, but I enjoyed it a lot. We also did a lot of weeding; at one point it began raining so we took a brake and got to know each other a little better. This is my second year doing the garden internship and I have definitely become more confident and open around new people and a lot of it has to do with the internship, so I am very excited for this summer.

My first day working in the garden at the O’Keeffe Museum was very fun but tiring. We took a tour of the house and the garden. I had enjoyed pulling weeds near the corn and planting seeds, but I hated cultivating since it made my arms tired. It was hot which I didn’t like one bit but besides that it was a fun day. Later, on I cannot wait to pick the vegetables and things we had planted in the garden.

Today went very well for my first day and as well as my first time joining the program. We started off by doing a tour of the garden and the house, I loved the old sculptures, and the studio was my favorite part of the house. Then we proceeded to make mounds to start planting. I planted radishes, then started to weed. We weeded the corn, watermelons, and the basil. My favorite part of the day was planting the vegetables, and my least part of the was the heat. I’m excited to see all the plants grow to their full ability.

This is my first time working at the garden. I can’t deny I was nervous but after working for a little I realized it was actually pretty fun. We started by doing a tour of the house and garden, the house was really nice, and the sculptures are cool. Then we started building the mounds so we could plant. We planted all kinds of plants, I planted carrots and lettuce, it wasn’t hard, but it took a long time. Overall, it was a long and tiring day, but it was fun.
